Xikuangshan is located approximately 15 kilometers northeast of Lengshuijiang City, covering a total area of 67 square kilometers. It holds the world's top reserves of antimony resources, leads the world in antimony product output, and boasts the highest quality antimony products globally, earning it the title of "World Antimony Capital." However, over a century of mining has wreaked havoc on Xikuangshan's ecological environment¡ªsevere surface soil pollution, difficulties for vegetation to survive, and mineral waste slag covering the mountains, leaving them scarred and desolate.

Entering the 21st century, the people of Lengshuijiang embarked on an arduous journey of ecological restoration for the century-old mine. In 2020, the pilot project for ecological restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, and grasslands in the antimony coal mining area of Lengshuijiang City, Loudi, was implemented in Xikuangshan. The project, tailored to local conditions, closely integrated Xikuangshan's cultural history and natural resources to create a series of demonstration sites for mine ecological restoration and geological cultural landscapes that showcase local characteristics, transforming the treated areas and giving them a new lease on life.
In the "Forest and Mountain Restoration" project, vegetation restoration was carried out on abandoned mines and rocky desertified mountains. Through tree planting and grass sowing, barren rocky slopes were re-clothed in green, and water diversion and irrigation projects were constructed to ensure survival rates while also addressing residents' domestic water needs. By removing surface soil, the original beauty of the mountains and rocks was fully revealed. Road platforms were built to ensure accessibility and provide resting areas for people, and landscape naming infused the mountains and rocks with soul.
