Famous Figures

Aiwan Pavilion served as a venue for Mao Zedong's early revolutionary activities.

In the early 20th century, the young Mao Zedong left his hometown, Shaoshan, to study at the First Provincial Normal School in Changsha. He often visited Aiwan Pavilion with his classmates, including Cai Hesen, Luo Xuezan, and Zhang Kundi.

In the ninth year of the Republic of China (1920), Mao Zedong fell in love with Yang Kaihui, and they frequently came to Aiwan Pavilion to have heart-to-heart talks.

In 1955, Mao Zedong returned to Changsha and specially invited his old classmate Zhou Shizhao to revisit Aiwan Pavilion with him.
